			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>You might have heard of glutathione.  It is crucial to the body&#8217;s management of oxidative stress.  Oxidative stress affects more than 200 different diseases as well as aging.  As we get older, glutathione levels decline.  So its a common idea that health can be improved in the later years of life by offsetting the age-related decline of glutathione.  A number of studies of the health benefits of whey have been published in peer-reviewed medical literature.  Much of the benefit of whey comes from its unique ability to increase levels of glutathione at the cellular level.  You have to increase the amount of glutathione in the cells of the body because this is where glutathione does its work of eliminating harmful molecules called reactive oxidative species (ROS) and molecular fragments called free radicals. There are different ways of increasing glutathione.  Some actually work faster than whey protein.  For long term use, whey protein is probably best because it supports rather than disrupts the complex glutathione metabolism of the body.  Also, it is just milk protein.  The long term side effects are minimal if it is mixed properly and used in moderate amounts &#8211; about 30 grams per day for an adult getting a nominal amount of exercise. There are probably hundreds of whey protein products on the market.  Some are rather expensive.  Many are optimized for use by bodybuilders, not for glutathione supplementation.  Which is best? The reason why whey protein increases glutathione probably has to do with the fact that it makes the amino acid cysteine available to the cells of the body.  Availability of cysteine is the main factor that limits production of glutathione.  Whey protein contains cysteine in the form of cystine and gamma-glutamyl-cysteine.  In this form, it has a much higher availability than if you were to injest cysteine directly.  The two protein components of whey that contain cysteine in this form are immunoglobulin and bovine serum albumin.  Oftentimes, protein composition of a whey powder product is not provided the manufacturer.  However, if it is, look for about 10% immunoglobulin (IMG) and 10% bovine serum albumin (BSA).  This tends to be a sort of &#8220;sweet spot&#8221; where effectiveness and value are optimal. So which is better. . .  whey protein concentrate or whey isolate? The commonly accepted definition of an isolate is that it contains 90% protein by weight or better.  Concentrate contains less than 90%.  The total amount of protein is not as important as the type of protein.  Whey protein isolate is often depleted of the higher molecular weight components described above (BSA and IMG) by the additional processing step.  Whey protein concentrate tends to be a better choice.  </p>

It would appear that little Miss Muffet was on a whey protein diet.  Whey Protein is a protein made from milk.  Milk is high in protein.   Milk also contains some elements not particularly useful to dieters, like milk fat and lactose sugars.  First, the milk is curdled.   This is a common process, and all cheese, yogurt and sour cream begins with curdled milk.   Further into the cheese making process, the curds are removed to compress into cheese.   What is left is a watery whey protein liquid.   The liquid is placed in a centrifuge where the fats and whey are separated.   When the whey protein is all that is left, it is transformed into powder by drying.  The result is a very rich protein powder.   A few generations ago, the good old egg was thought to be top of the biologically useful protein chart.   But when scientists started to look at whey, they found it easily beat the egg.   The protein absorption scale which previously had the egg at 100, now had to be adjusted to allow for whey concentrate at 104 and whey isolates over 110 up to 159.   So whey isolate protein has the potential to be 50% more biologically useful than egg protein.  What does this mean for the whey protein diet? To begin with it is a meal substitution diet.  Breakfast and lunchtime meals are replaced with a whey protein shake.  The shake itself is whey powder mixed with skim milk or water.  The protein shake has 20 grams of protein, and yet very little carbohydrates or fats.  A serving of whey powder has roughly 120 calories.  Mix it with skim milk for another 80 calories, and you have grand total calorie count of about 200.  You end up getting the very high 20 grams of protein in a 200 calorie shake.  You feel full, but your overall calorie intake was lower than if you had eaten a normal breakfast or lunch.    </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Protein is consider the building blocks of the body cell, they help with many functions in the body, but they are mostly know is for there work in the muscle cells. There are many types of protein available for you.  They can be found in milk, eggs, cottage cheese, chicken, turkey, fish, red meats, etc. .  You also have a variety of protein supplements such as milk protein, egg protein, soy protein and vegetable protein.  Out of all of these protein supplements, whey protein has the highest biological value (you get more usable gram of amino acids). For all athletes protein or (whey protein) is a key factor in building muscle and burning fat.  Athletes require more protein than the average person, because of the need to rebuild muscle fiber after strenuous muscle use.  Without the use of protein, you can&#8217;t build muscle. It is recommended to consume between 1 and 1. 5 grams of quality protein per pound of body weight each day.  For example if you total intake of protein a day equals to 180 grams you will want to divide that between 5 meals or more, so around 35 grams of protein per meal.  By having a consistent intake of protein every 3 to 4 hours you create an anabolic effect (which meals build muscle, burn fat).  You can get the protein from eating chicken, turkey, fish, red meat, etc. . .  but it becomes expensive and takes longer to digest.  That&#8217;s were whey protein comes in.  Whey protein is easier to digest, easier to prepare (just mix with milk or water) and cheaper cost per gram. Whey protein offers many benefits not just building muscle and burning fat.  Whey protein provides an extra boost to the immune system by raising glutathione levels and helps control blood glucose levels. There a different types of whey proteins.  Whey protein Concentrate contains around 70 &#8211; 80% protein, the rest is lactose, fat, and undenatured proteins.  Whey Isolate contains around 90 &#8211; 96% protein, this process has more of the lactose and fat removed, so you get a higher quality protein.  There are products that contain a blend of both the whey protein concentrate &amp; isolate, this is done to bring down the price since whey protein isolate is more expensive.  Then you have products that contain a blend of caesine protein and whey protein, this creates a time release effect.  Whey protein gets absorb faster then caesine protein.  This combination is beneficial for night time use since you are usually inactive for 8 hours and your body is repairing itself. Even though athletes need more protein than the average person, the use of whey protein is for everyone.  If you are not that active you just need to consume less or you could replace other sources for the whey protein.  </p>
